Ireland

According to Social Justice Ireland, one in every six people in Ireland lives with an income below the poverty line. Based on the latest CSO data, this corresponds to approximately 760,000 people, which makes 15.7% of Ireland’s Population. Around 230,000 children live in households below the poverty line… Child poverty is a reality for one in every five children in Ireland, about 230,000 children. Children under 16 years old are 23.9% of all those in poverty; and students and school children under 18 years are 18.4%. The scale of this statistic is alarming… given that our children are our future, this situation is not acceptable. As a society, how long more can we afford to ignore these children and their living standards?

Children are one of the most vulnerable groups in any society. Consequently, the issue of child poverty deserves special attention.
